| The beginning of the year saw the great success of the second Legacy Lives Conference at the Hilton Hotel in Barbados. With over 200 people from 25 countries, major event rights holders, International Federations and bidding cities it really was a vibrant and competitive atmosphere. |

"Legacy Lives signalled the arrival of legacy as a driving intellectual force in the philosophical framework of hosting major events. It demonstrated that the impact of legacy on event planning merits a broader discussion by all the entities involved in staging a major event" |

The high profile line-up of speakers read like a who’s who of leading organisations – Lord Sebastian Coe, Mike Fennell, John Furlong, Paul Bush, Bruce Dewar, Robert Cohen, Austin Sealy, Mike Lee, George Hirthler, Rob Prazmark… to name but a few! The two-day conference and workshops promoted knowledge transfer and skill exchange at a time when effective legacy planning has never been more important for cities and LOCs considering a bid, already in the bidding process or hosting major sporting events. |

The legacy themed exhibition that ran alongside the conference featured professional services organisations along with leading world bidding cities. The exhibition brought together global professional services companies in design and overlay, infrastructure and master planning together with economic, environmental, tourism and social legacy consultancies. It also featured International Federations, bidding cities, tourist boards, marketing, PR and media agencies. |

Legacy Lives 2008 also hosted a spectacular sunset bbq and welcome drinks reception along with a gala dinner. Both evenings provided the opportunity for networking and informal dialogue surrounded by impressive views of the Caribbean sea and Barbadian coastline.
The annual Legacy Lives conference will be taken around the world each year to cities and countries that demonstrate they are at the forefront of major event legacy planning and implementation. |
