"Major events have the power to create           social, economic and environmental legacies. As hosts of the 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games, we look forward to welcoming and learning form the world's leaders in this field while showcasing the unique ways British Columbia is leveraging legacy opportunities."
Honourable Gordon Campbell,
Premier, Province of British Columbia, Canada

And apart from the keynote presentations and six interactive workshop streams, what else is on offer?

  • A major sporting event themed exhibition over three days of the event
  • This year's star attraction - site visits for delegates to all the main 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games venues in both Vancouver and Whistler, organised in conjunction with VANOC
  • A star studded welcome reception and gala dinner
  • Lots of opportunities for informal networking with speakers, moderators, sponsors and leading international figures from the major event world
  • A very highly respected closing aspirational speaker following in the footsteps of Lord Sebastian Coe in London 2007 and John Furlong in Barbados 2008
  • Top experts from around the world presenting keynote papers and leading the six interactive streams including break-outs, management games, scenario planning, lots debate and discussion.

Register today to secure your delegate place and join us at Legacy Lives 2009 in Vancouver.

Legacy Lives 2009 will be the third year of this important conference, building upon the unqualified success of the inaugural event in London in 2007 and the excellent session in Barbados earlier this year.

Now firmly established in the annual conference calendar, Legacy Lives is the international forum for everyone involved or aiming to be involved in staging a major sporting event.

The 2009 event in Vancouver will bring together over 400 of the leading experts and decision makers from around the world, all of whom have one thing in common - they want to understand and develop the thinking around how a major sporting event can help to deliver long term and sustainable benefits for their city, region and country - the 'legacy agenda'.

The event includes two plenary sessions from leading gurus involved in legacy planning and implementation programmes and the opportunity for significant delegate debate, discussion and interaction via six workshop streams over one full day covering such topics as:

1. Sporting Legacy

2. Venues

3. Place branding

4. Measuring impact

5. Social legacy

6. Environmental legacy

with a sustainability theme running across all six streams.
